Katherine M. Dunzweiler, 99, of Zanesville, died at 5:30 PM Saturday April 24, 2010 at Genesis Extended Care and Rehab Center.

Katherine was born February 13, 1911 in Zanesville the daughter of the late Walter and Edythe Schreiber Mees. She was a life-long member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she later became the first woman elected to the Church Council. She achieved academic excellence at Valparaiso University while working for the Registrar. During WW II, Katherine was employed as the Registrar’s Assistant at the Air Force Depot in Zanesville and in Oakland, CA. Katherine supported her husband in his new business, Dunzweiler Reality, which was established in 1951. At age 75, she updated her skills by learning new computer technology. After retiring at age 84, Katherine volunteered at Bethesda Hospital. Her faith was her constant strength.

Katherine is survived by her daughter: Deanne (Jim) Hensel of Plantation, FL, son: Durbin “Durb” (Mel) Dunzweiler of Zanesville, grandchildren: Derrin Dunzweiler, Darcie Dunzweiler and Greg Hensel, great grandchildren: Drew and Alex Dunzweiler and Sidney and Austin Hensel, brother: Jim Mees of Zanesville and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her husband of 68 years William “Bill” Dunzweiler who died June 6, 2003, sisters: Ruth Toby, Lillian Moeller and Marjorie Kieran, brother: Edgar Mees, granddaughter: Alisa Hensel and lifelong friend: Irene Jacob.

Visitation for Katherine will be from 11:00 AM till time of service at 1:00 PM Wednesday April 28, 2010 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church 128 S. 7th St. Zanesville with Rev. Larry Kudart officiating. Committal service will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Bryan & Snider Funeral Home 2318 Maple Ave Zanesville is assisting the Dunzweiler family with services.
