DONALD E. LAWYER, 89
Donald “Don” E. Lawyer, 89, of Zanesville died at 3:18 a.m. Saturday, September 2, 2017, at the Genesis Morrison House Hospice.
He was born on July 25, 1928, in Zanesville, Ohio the son of Bert and Helen (Bowman) Lawyer.
Don was a Korean Conflict Army Veteran and retired from the Kroger Company where he worked as a meat cutter for 42 years. Don was a celebrated family storyteller and lived a grateful life. Don would always tell his family, “Keep a smile on your face and a song in your heart.”
He is survived by the light of his life and wife of 65 years, Betty L. (Knight) Lawyer; one daughter, Joni (Kevin) Strang of Newark; three sons, Donald (Sherri) Lawyer of Wisconsin, Lon "Kevin" (Esther) Lawyer of Nashport and Lance (Peggy) Lawyer of Blue Rock. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren: Emily (David) Strang Tarbert; Codi (John) Williamson; Lyndsay (Mike) Simon; Amanda (Vonzel) Hagans; Katie (Justin) Lawyer; Taylor (Georgia) Strang; Kylee Roberts; and 11 great-grandchildren. Don was affectionately known as “Dollar Grandpa” to his many grandchildren who could always expect to receive a fresh one-dollar bill when they visited.
He is preceded in death by his parents, 11 siblings, and his dog and faithful companion of many years, Levi.
Friends may call 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 5th at the Bryan & Hardwick Funeral Home with funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. with Chaplain Tim Patton officiating. Burial with military honors will conclude at the Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery.
