James "Jim" W. Mees, 82 of Jacksonville,Florida and formerly of Zanesville died at 6:08 AM Friday, March 10, 2017 at the Residence at Arbor Hospice, Saline, MI.
He was born December 14, 1934 in Zanesville, Ohio the son of Walter Mees and Edith (Schreiber) Mees and was the youngest of six children.
Jim was a 1956 graduate of Valparaiso University majoring in business and was an Air Force Veteran. Jim was a lifelong member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. Many will remember him from Mees' Floor Covering at the end of the Y bridge, a family business he owned and operated with his brother Ed for over 30 years.
Jim was an avid sports fan, especially the Cleveland Browns and the University of Michigan. However, his most cherished moments were watching his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren play sports. Jim was very social and will be missed by dear friends in Zanesville, Ft. Pierce, FL., Ann Arbor, MI. and Jacksonville, FL.
He is survived by his children; Debbie (Kevin) Philip of Zanesville, Dee(Paul) Perry of Jacksonville FL, Mark(Amy) Mees of Ann Arbor MI. Grandchildren; Matt(Carrie) Philip of Zanesville, Chris(Anna) Philip of Zanesville, Chad (Sharmila) Perry of Jacksonville FL, Jaime (Cody) Friend of Zanesville, Marc Perry of Orlando FL, David Mees of Ann Arbor, Emma Mees of Ann Arbor along with eleven great Grandchildren. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his five siblings and his wife, Janet R. (Williams) Mees.
Friends may call 11:00 am to 1:00 PM on March 14, 2017 at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church where funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM. Burial with military honors will conclude at the Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church for Sunday school. Donations can be mailed to 128 S. 7th. Street Zanesville, OH 43701.
