James "Jim" "Big Toe" H. Rittberger, 63, of Zanesville, died peacefully in his sleep Thursday morning, Nov. 23, 2017 at his home.
Born Dec. 30, 1953 in Zanesville, Oh., the son of the late Harry F. Rittberger and Evelyn E. (Winters) Rittberger. Jim was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church and a graduate of Philo High School.
Jim was employed by Carl Rittberger Sr. Inc. from the age of 16 and later Lumi-Lite Candle and Greif Bros. before he retired. He was an avid fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes and loved to spend time with his family, especially with his nephew Blair at the “Man Cave.” Family and friends will never forget his funny stories and pranks, and his love of computers and tech gadgets.
He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Rosemary "Rosie" Rundag Rittberger; daughter Wendi (Brian) Gadd, and son Shawn Edwards; grandsons Landon Joseph “Jojo” Gadd, Del Hayden Gadd and Austin Blake Carte; a brother Robert Rittberger; sisters Jo Ann Jones and Sherri McElfresh; nephews, Blair (Troy) Rittberger, Jason Rittberger, Bobby (Paige) Rittberger, Chris (Christy) Rittberger and Doug Jones; two nieces, Erica McElfresh & Brittany (Benji) Claus; and sister-in-law Sandy Rittberger. Jim also leaves behind his beloved dog and pal Brooke.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a brother Ron Rittberger, sister-in-law Marylin Rittberger, nephews Zachary McElfresh and Mike Jones, and niece Sally Darst.
Friends may call 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday, November 27th and one hour prior to service on Tuesday with funeral service to be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday November 28th at the Bryan & Hardwick Funeral Home, 2318 Maple Ave.    
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ’s Table or the Muskingum County Animal Shelter.
