Betty Brannon Rice, 97, of Harrisonburg, VA passed away on Monday, March 5, 2018, in her home at V.M.R.C.
Mrs. Rice was born, July 2, 1920 in Zanesville, Ohio and was the only child of the late Lester Lee and Winifred Ida Balo Taylor Brannon. On March 20, 1943 she married E. Walter Rice, M.D., of New Market who also preceded her in death on September 11, 1981.
Betty moved to New Market as a teenager and also lived in Washington, D.C., New York, Pennsylvania, Martinsburg, WV, and Woodstock. She was a graduate of Madison College, now James Madison University. She was a homemaker, loved traveling throughout the world especially her family trips to the Outer Banks N.C., reading and gardening. She was a former member of the Round Hill Garden Club of Bridgewater and loved attending the regional, state and national garden club conventions all over the county. She took many gardening classes and was proud that she was a Master Flower Show Judge.
She is survived by her daughter, Ann Rice Yager of Harrisonburg; three grandchildren, Kimberly Snyder Joralemon and husband, Roger of Dayton, James Walter Snyder of Elkton and Rodney Lee Snyder and wife Teresa of Fredericksburg; seven great-grandchildren, Jamie McDorman and husband, John, Christopher Lee Joralemon, Haley Elizabeth Snyder, Brannon Anthony Joralemon, Emily May Snyder, Taylor Ann Joralemon and Allison Marie Snyder. Also surviving are her two great-great-grandchildren, Callie and Colton McDorman.
Visitation will be held at the Bryan & Hardwick Funeral Home Saturday, March 10, 2018 from 1:30 pm to 2:00 pm with graveside service to immediately follow at Zanesville Memorial Park.
