Edmund "Ed" Charles Bowman, 94 of Zanesville died at 3:00 PM Saturday, January 7, 2023 at the Genesis Hospice Morrison House.
He was born August 20, 1928 in Zanesville the son of James and Sylvia Brown Bowman.
Ed was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in 1948 & was a United States Army Veteran who served in the Korean War. He was a retired Letter Carrier for the United States Postal Service after 36 years of service, Coached St Thomas 7th and 8th Grade Boys Basketball for over 40 years and was the custodian for St Thomas Aquinas School/Bishop Fenwick for most of those years as well. Ed’s hobbies included, Basketball, Racquetball, Hiking the Appalachian Trail, serving his church, school, and family in any way he could. One of his greatest joys was greeting the students at Bishop Fenwick School and Preschool every morning. He also received many honors for his community service, including 2009 Inductee to Rosecrans Athletic Boosters Hall of Fame, Recipient of Zanesville Daybreak Rotary Club Community Service Award in 2015 & a Member of “Forever Dads Legacy of Fatherhood” Class of 2018.
Ed is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Ruth Evelyn (Harmon) Bowman whom he married October 31, 1953; his children, Sue (Bob) Baird, Tim Bowman, Cindy (Greg) Grady, Mike (Anne) Bowman and Jason (Wendy) Bowman; Grandchildren, Amber Gentry (Tadd) Sickles, Jaime Baird, Shana Baird (Jared) O’Boyle, Arielle Gentry (Thomas III) Holdren, Robert (Susan) Baird Jr., Ashland (Rachael Melick) Gentry & Honorary “Granddaughter” Kailey Zemba; Great Grandchildren, Madelyn Holdren, Thomas Holdren IV, Bowman O’Boyle, Harper O’Boyle, Charlie Sickles, Robert Baird III & Mika Ann Gentry.

In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his siblings, Terry Bowman, Richard Bowman, Betty (Bowman) Taylor, James Bowman & infant daughter, Mary Beth Bowman.
Visitation will be held 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Monday, January 9, 2023 at the Bryan & Hardwick Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:00 PM Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School Activity Center with Fr. Eric Bowman as celebrant. Burial with Military Honors will conclude at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
In Lieu of flowers, we ask that you donate a basketball, which will be distributed to local youths. Racks will be provided at visiting hours to place the balls. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.
