James Patrick "Pat" Mathes, 87 of Zanesville died at 2:59 AM Friday, January 12, 2018 at the Genesis Morrison House Hospice.
He was born November 06, 1930 in Chicago, IL the son of Custer Monroe Mathes and Mary Faye Pierce Mathes.
Pat was a Korean War Army Veteran and was owner & operator, along with his son Eric, of the Mathes Printing Company since 1962 where he worked every day until the day he died. He enjoyed waterskiing, writing poetry & working on word puzzles. Pat had built his own in ground swimming pool that he enjoyed swimming laps & maintaining. He loved to travel with Sherry & his favorite vacation spot was Hawaii.
He is survived by his loving companion of 32 years, Sherry Scott and her two daughters, Kenda (Mark) Menter and Cynthia (Bill) Wright and their families; a son; Eric (Gerri) Mathes and a daughter, Linda (Daniel) Nolan; grandchildren, Ryan (Melanie) Nolan, Danielle (Brent Ritchie) Mathes, Kade James Patrick Mathes; great grandchildren, Sophie, Jonas and Gemma; a sister Judie Northrop; many nieces & nephews; and his pet dogs, Mac & Tosh. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by an infant brother Alvin; his brothers, Donald Mathes, Gene Mathes and a half-brother Paul Mathes.
The family will receive friends during his “Celebration of Life” from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM with Military Honors at 4:45 PM Saturday Feb. 3, 2018 at the Bryan & Hardwick Funeral Home.
