Joel Michael Liston, 33 years old of Zanesville, passed away at Genesis Health Care System at 5:12 pm on March 3, 2018 after a long struggle with drug addiction. Joel was surrounded by his loving family when he passed.
Joel was born on February 22, 1985 to Kelly (Williamson) Kocher and Michael Liston at Bethesda Hospital. He was a 2003 graduate of Philo High School. Although Joel had multiple occupations through the years, working as a restaurant server was his favorite. Joel had a great sense a humor, his voice stood out in a crowd and he was in the middle of that crowd with a smile on his face. Joel loved playing cards with his family, his Jordan tennis shoe collection, listening to Ekoostik Hookah music, wearing crisply ironed shirts and a fresh haircut. Throughout the years Joel liked to ride and race motor bikes, play golf and other sports with his family and be a part of whatever was going on around him. Joel loved family gatherings and was proud of and spoiled from being the first grandchild on both sides of the family. The last few years he loved spending time with his younger brother and his newest cousins as he adored little children. Joel was an organ donor and gave the gift of life.
Joel will be sadly missed by his parents, his sister Molly Liston, brother Luke Liston, maternal grandmom and pap pap – Shirley and Bob Williamson, aunts; Candy (Mike) Emmert, Linda (Rick) Greene, and Becky (Scott) Hall, cousins; Michael (Kylie) Emmert, Nicholas Emmert, Chris Emmert, Katie Greene, Taylor (Patrick) Dillon, Chase Hall and Chad (Samantha) Hall, and little cousins Mikey and Alauna Emmert. He is also survived by many friends, as well as friends and sponsors from the Sober Living, Rehabs, AA and NA programs that he attended.
Joel’s grandma and papaw, Pat and Phil Liston preceded Joel in passing.
Visitation will be held at the Bryan & Hardwick Funeral Home Thursday, March 8, 2018 from 5 pm to 7:30 pm with a service starting at 7:30 pm. A private burial at Mount Olive Cemetery will take place at a later date.
