Tribute

Joseph A. Stevens Jr., 98, of Zanesville, went to be with his loving wife, Marjorie, in heaven on December 17, 2020. Joe was born April 14, 1922, to the late Joseph A. Stevens Sr and Nancy Stevens Brock. He married Marjorie (Leasure) Stevens on January 26, 1947. In 1942, Joe entered the US Army where he proudly served his country during World War II in the 1st Cavalry Division. Following the war, he worked as a machinist and shop foreman at Porter Welding for over 40 years.

Joe was a generous man with a big heart who loved his family and his country. Throughout his life, Joe was a skilled wood craftsman and participated in numerous local craft shows for 30 years. He loved to mow on his John Deere tractor and landscape with his son-in-law. Joe could often be found at the soccer field or basketball court cheering on his granddaughters at their sporting events or supporting their numerous school activities. Throughout the years, Joe was also an active member of the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, Pleasant Grove Grange, Pleasant Grove School Board, a lifetime member of the Masonic Amity Lodge & VFW Post 258, and an active Devilette Booster Dad. Most recently, Joe enjoyed traveling to the beach each summer with his entire family.

Joe is survived by his daughters: Beverly (Craig) Watt of Galloway, Stephanie (Bob) Paul of Zanesville, and Stacey (Scott) Sorrell of Galloway; 6 granddaughters: Heather (Joe) Barnes, Amanda (John) Marshall, Courtney Paul, Kaleigh (Rob) Matesick, Kelli Paul, and Sydney Sorrell; three great-grandchildren: Abbie Barnes and Jack & Owen Marshall; sister, Lucille Ayers; two sisters-in-law: Bonnie Bush and Lois DeBord; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife Marjorie; his parents; siblings: Bacil Stevens, Beulah Brock, Leonard Brock, Roberta Sprecher, and Vesta Moore. In addition, Joe leaves behind his sweet dog and companion, Amy.

Visitation will be held 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Monday, December 21, 2020 at the Bryan & Hardwick Funeral Home with funeral service at 1:00 PM with Linda Morrow officiating. Burial with military honors will conclude at Zanesville Memorial Park.
