Richard F. Barr

Richard F. “Dick” Barr, 87 of Zanesville died at 8:36 P.M. Saturday, December 29, 2018 at the Genesis Hospital ER.

He was born on Saturday, September 26, 1931 in Albuquerque, New Mexico the son of the late Robert F. and Addie A. Wright Barr.

Dick was a Veteran of the Korean War where he served as a medic in the U.S. Air Force. Dick retired from Rockwell International in 1993 where he worked as a pipefitter. He loved to golf, bowl and watch the Buckeyes and Browns play. According to his grandchildren, Dick had a mischievous sense of humor. Pap made his grandchildren believe he could speak Japanese fluently. Dick coached little league baseball for many years at Y-City. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion. Richard especially enjoyed spending time with his family.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Betty Barr, whom he married April 9, 1954; four children; Richard Barr, Jr., Denise (Rick) Gebhart, Doug (Lynn) Barr and Scott (Joan) Barr; nine grandchildren; Dr. Sarah (Dave Rock) Barr, Dr. Ross (Heather) Barr, Matthew (Emily) Gebhart, Andrew (Joanna) Gebhart, Stephanie (Jared) Cope, Jordan Spradlin, Dylan Spradlin, Sam (Danielle) Barr, and John (Emma) Barr; ten great-grandchildren; and four siblings; Ruth Kennel, Bob (Florence) Barr, Mary Meyer, and Madge (Don) Myer.

In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by six siblings; Reva Barr, Georgie Mitchell, Gertrude Rowe, Dorothy Palmer, Alberta Richardson and Rachel Faires-Spiker.

Friends may call from 11:00 to 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at the Bryan and Hardwick Funeral Home where the funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M with Pastor Dawn Remster officiating. Burial, with military honors, will conclude at the Zanesville Memorial Park.
