Tribute

Jane S. Donoho peacefully left this world and went to be with Christ on April 10, 2024.  She was born on June 7th, 1932 in Little Rock, Arkansas, to Paul Dibrell and Leota Ingram Sowell.
Her family transitioned from the Midwest to the East Coast early in her life which saw her graduate from The Bryn Mawr School in Baltimore, Maryland.
She attended Vassar College where she sang with the Night Owls, the oldest women’s Acapella group in the country.  Upon her return to Baltimore, she was the Assistant Head Mistress of the Grace and St. Peter’s Episcopal Church School.

Jane married her husband, Dr. Robert Donoho, MD, of Baltimore, Maryland, in 1956, and they moved their growing family to Zanesville, Ohio in 1962 where she pursued a career in real estate and a lifetime of volunteerism.
Jane spent 32 years as a realtor and truly loved helping people find and sell homes, especially first-time homebuyers!  She was a Brownie, Girl Scout, Cub Scout and Webelo leader over many years.  She initiated independent booking for the Zanesville Concert Association which facilitated talent the likes of pianists, Peter Nero, Victor Borge and the Houston Ballet among others, performing in Zanesville.  She was on the Muskingum County Developmental Disabilities Board when it established its first sheltered workshop and independent living homes.  She served on both Allocation and Strategic Planning committees of the Muskingum County, Perry County and Morgan County United Way organizations.  In addition, Jane served on the Acquisitions Committee of the Zanesville Museum of Art and made significant material contributions.

Jane was a member of St. James Episcopal Church for over 62 years where she was Co-chair of the Hospitality Committee facilitating events for current and potential members which brought her great joy.  She also enjoyed serving as a member on a number of clubs: the All Around Club, Beaux Arts Club, The Muskingum County Medical Auxiliary and the Green Thumb Garden Club.

While Jane had many careers during her lifetime, her most fulfilling role was that of faithful, and caring wife and mother.  She was married to Dr. Robert Smith Donoho, M.D. for 56 years, who proceeded her in death.  She is survived by her children, Lee Donoho also of Zanesville, Robert (Sharon) Donoho Jr. of Noblesville, Indiana, Wendy (Tod) Zuscin of Washington, DC, and Virginia Goodrich of Zanesville. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren Robby (Kelly) Donoho, of Indianapolis, Indiana, Brittany (Cory) O’Cull, of North Carolina and Rutger Zuscin of Washington, D.C. and her pride and joy,  great grandson, Kevin Robert O’Cull. Her surviving siblings are David Sowell of Baltimore, Maryland and Judy Christmas of Denver, Colorado.

Jane would also want to acknowledge her dear helpers: Audri Cornell, Tabetha Hoffer, Larry Young and Lynn Worden who took loving care of her for the last few years and throughout the process of going to be with God.  Lastly, she would also want to stress that she was given a God directed and joyful life.

A celebration of life will be held in the coming months, date to be determined, at St. James Episcopal Church (155 North 6th Street, Zanesville, Ohio.)

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate the consideration of a donation to the Falls Township Volunteer Fire Department, (P.O. Box 2215 Zanesville, Ohio 43701) who have gone above and beyond to serve the Zanesville Community and have given tremendous support to the Donoho family.
