Eldred Eugene “Gene” Pence
Zanesville: Gene Pence, 91, of Zanesville passed away at Clay Gardens on Sun., Nov. 12, 2017, after a brief pneumonia illness. He was born Dec. 23, 1925, to the late Amanda (Moore) and William “Nippy” Pence.
He was a wonderful man with endless patience who loved everyone and was loved by all. He was caring, giving, and his goal was to put a smile on everyone’s face. He was a supervisor at Mosiac Tile Company until the Zanesville plant closed. He retired from General Electric, New Concord in 1988. He was a member of the Sonora United Methodist Church, a 65 year member of the Lafayette Lodge No. 79 F & AM, and a WW II Marine veteran.
Surviving are his sisters Genevieve Tyson and Doris Griffith and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews including a special great-nephew, Slade Denman (SPD), whom he thought of as his grandson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Goldie (Grable) Pence; his siblings, Cora Oliver, Delbert “Buck” Pence, Betty Boyer, Spurgeon Pence, Annabelle Lacy, Leora Conkle, and Dudley Pence.
Friends and family may call at the Bryan & Hardwick Funeral Home, 2318 Maple Ave. from 6-8 PM Wed., Nov. 15, 2017 with Masonic Services at 7:45 PM by La-Fayette Lodge No. 79 F & AM. Funeral service will be 11 AM Thurs., Nov. 16, 2017 at the funeral home with Pastor Roger Morrow officiating and burial with military honors will conclude at Zanesville Memorial Park, 1475 Military Road, Zanesville OH.
